Grandma's Doll

Grandma’s Doll
vintage fabric, velvet powder puff folk art doll remnant, archival cotton, stretched canvas, 6 by 6 inches
Folk Art by Drew Watson
June 2010 (sold)

I love the expression on his/ her face. What are you thinking?
Note the remnant of handmade white lace around the head...a bonnet? I couldn't identify the orange fabric as it was so delicate and frayed but it looks like a knit.
Thanks for looking...

2 Projects

I'm creating 2 new pieces.
The first is for the Lighthouse of the Bigbend. It's designed to be both seen and touched.
Working title: Floral Reef
Materials: late 19th century fabric, archival linen

More information on the project can be found at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=109359675752860&ref=mf
You can participate too...Calling all creative multi-media artists! Now that the Lighthouse of the Big Bend is in a new building, our spacious walls are bare. Therefore we are sponsoring a contest for accessible art that can be "seen" through touch, to be enjoyed visually AND tactually. A total of three winners and five honorable mentions will be selected by a panel composed of three blind and two sighted experts.

Tactual art work can by created with a variety of mediums. The Lighthouse challenges all artists to create a piece of art that really "stands out". A wide variety of mediums can be used to give a 3-dimensional effect, including fabric, paint, clay, wood, feathers, glass, wire – your creativity is the limit! The goal is to create a piece that can be appreciated by the Lighthouse clients who have lost their vision as well as persons who are sighted.

The second is for a special client who wishes to remain anonymous.
